Hi, my name is Lauren. I call myself the Lavender Doula because I love aromatherapy and I heavily rely on lavender in my life. I thought I would do a question and answer for you to learn a little bit more about me and where I come from. If you have any more specific questions for me just send me a message through the contact page. I also have a Facebook page with some of my services. Here is the link:

Who did you become certified through?
I got my doula certification through International Doula Institute.
What made you want to be a doula?
I have always wanted to help people, and as a child I thought that meant being a doctor. So, as I got older and pursued this more, I realized that what I really wanted was to become a midwife. That is a path that takes a little time and I thought that becoming a doula would help me to progress on this path and get real life, hands-on experience in the mean time. Also, during my own birth I became even more fascinated with childbirth and that powerful experience. I want to be able to give back and help women through their birth experiences. I wish that our society had more of a support system for women around birth and I want to be apart of making a change towards that.
What experiences do you have that may enhance your abilities as a doula?
For basically my whole life, I have been babysitting. I am the oldest of five children, and always watched them, along with many other of my parent’s friends and neighbor’s children. So I think I’m very good with babies and kids. My work history is all over the place, I have done everything from being a custodian to a secretary to selling essential oils. I have good interpersonal skills and can connect with people. Being a mom has also helped me to learn how to multi-task even more, which I’m sure every mom can understand. I actually amaze myself with how much I can get done sometimes. I think my biggest strength is the ability I have to empathize. I think that helps me to relate to people even when I may disagree with them.
Are you involved with any non profit organizations?
My husband, a friend and I run a non-profit that is dedicated to helping people get medicine and food. We believe that good food is medicine and in using herbs to heal everything else. We are still pretty small, but hope to get a lot bigger. We are a branch of the Oklevueha Native American Church, our branch’s name is Mount Zion. You can check out our Facebook page here:

Who do you live with?
I live with my husband, Jordan and our son, Benjamin and we have another little bundle of joy on the way. We also have a dog, Squanto, who is named after the Native American. We got him after we moved up to Oregon. We saw a sign up from one of the neighbors that said free hound/pit puppies and went to just go look at them. However, it’s impossible to just look at puppies, and of course when we went there he came running up to us and we had to take him home. He’s been a great addition to the family. He is so good with our little boy and they are best friends.
Where are you from and where do you live now?
I was born in Texas and moved to North Carolina when I was 5. I stayed there until I went off to college in Utah. After my husband and I were married we moved up to Oregon. My husband had bought some land there around the same time that we met. After several years we decided it was time to move up there. We loved it. We recently decided to move back to Provo, though we hope to be able to homestead again in the near future.
What are your favorite TV shows and hobbies?
We don’t actually own a TV and don’t really watch television. Sometimes we will watch documentaries and I, of course, love anything to do with birth. But I mostly love to use my free time to read books. My favorite hobby is probably cooking. I love making healthy and delicious food. I love anything that has to do with being in nature. I also enjoy doing art projects and gardening.
